Doorman and Bell Boys
Almost every hotel has a doorman or two and a few bell boys to help out the guests as they are arriving and departing. If you have never noticed these people before, you will want to keep an eye out the next time you are at a hotel. Even if you think that they cannot do much for you, the fact of the matter is that they most certainly can. Many guests treat doormen and bell boys like they do not exist, but you should not fall into this mold. Just like any other hotel staff, you will want to make sure that you respect these people and what they can do for you.
Doorman Duties
The doorman does not have many responsibilities at a hotel, but with that being said he or she is very important to the overall operation. As the name implies, a doorman is somebody who will watch the door and open it for guests that are entering and leaving the hotel. Of course a doorman is not essential to the way that a hotel runs and operates, but it is a nice touch of luxury for the guests to take advantage of. After all, isn’t it nice to have somebody greet you at the door and open it for you? Even though you do not have to tip a doorman, you may want to do if you feel like you should.
Bell Boys
When you check into a hotel a bell boy may be available to help you take your bags to your room. Even though not every hotel has belly boys, the more luxurious ones most definitely will. The great thing about relying on a bell boy is that you do not have to carry your luggage on your own. And if you have a lot of stuff to carry you know just how important this can be. When your bell boy is done taking your bags to your room you may want to give him a few dollars. This is only proper, but again it is up to you as to if you want to tip the bell boy.
Overall, doormen and bell boys are nice additions to any hotel. If you are lucky enough to be staying at a hotel that offers this type of service, be sure to take advantage of it. And remember, it is always nice to reward them for work that they do.
